P6 Effective Emotions Assessment

The Effective Emotions (EE) Assessment is a practical, easy to understand tool for both assessing and developing more productive ways to manage our emotions. It is based on in-depth research about both our emotions and our responses, and is designed to optimize both.

Understanding and Managing Our Emotions is Essential

Highly self-aware and positively motivated performers almost always achieve higher success and satisfaction because our emotions often shape whether our behavior is more positively or negatively experienced by ourselves and others.

The implications are significant, especially given that more positively motivated individuals tend to be more focused on achieving results, goals, growth, and working with others in cooperative ways. By contrast, more negatively motivated individuals tend to be more resistant to other perspectives, options, actions, and relationships.
The specific characteristics in each EE phase provide a way to identify if your opportunity for strengthening performance can be best achieved by better managing our Attitudes or our Actions related to our emotions.

Importantly, our emotional attitudes and actions are often different in the dynamic situations and conditions we experience. The Effective Emotions report addresses this by analyzing our approaches in two ways:

Assessment Analysis 1:
Focuses on our behavior patterns in FAVORABLE conditions when we tend to be characterized by more positive thinking, feelings and emotions.

Assessment Analysis 2:
Focuses on our behavior patterns in UNFAVORABLE situations when we tend to be more negative or reactive.

The 3D EE Phases

A Replicable Way To Effectively Manage Emotions

The Effective Emotions report consist of three inter-related components to ensure successful and satisfying outcomes for ourselves and others.
Phase 1:
Discovering
Our Emotions

Fine-tuning our awareness and exploration of our physical (physiological) response(s) to emotions.

Phase 2:
Deciding How to
(Re)Direct Our Emotions:

Our initial feeling and ensuing thinking response(s) to help us move from instinctive reactions to more intentional ones.

Phase 3:
Doing (Taking Action)
in a Positive Manner:

Our thinking (cognition) and actions based on our desired level of success and satisfaction.

OUR NATURAL RESPONSES

Typical (Ineffective) Emotions

Our emotions and behavior (especially in unfavorable situations) are often determined by:
  • Habitual attitudes and actions
  • Instinctive attitudes and actions
  • Preferred attitudes and actions
The result, as shown below, is a series of attitudes and actions that are often difficult to self-manage and result in underperformance and frustration.

OUR DEVELOPED RESPONSES

Effective Emotions

By increasing awareness and understanding of our emotions, we increase performance by:

  • Acquired/learned attitudes and actions
  • Growth-focused attitudes and actions
  • Insights-based attitudes and actions

Using insights from the growth-focused Effective Emotions report, we can increase success and satisfaction for ourselves and others, even in unfavorable situations. The report’s three inter-related components enable you to achieve more productive and positive results.

The Importance of Effective Emotions Assessments

Whether a leader, parent or friend, the EE assessment helps us manage and sustain more positive attitudes and actions with respect to ourselves and our relationships with others. The EE report provides a model to understand and manage those emotions and to help us more effectively navigate our external environment and conditions.
“Emotions Are Contagious, What Are You Spreading”?
  • The only emotions (attitudes and actions) we control are our own. EE will help you achieve a more successful and satisfying way to navigate your world.
  • We also influence the emotions (attitude and actions) of others positively or negatively. As leaders, this is a critical insight. Do you know what you’re spreading? Contact your Potentia consultant today to find out.
